Swing-by, 2021
Swing-by is one of the navigation methods used by space probes.
When a spacecraft passes through the orbit of a large planet such as Jupiter, it is pulled by the planet’s gravity and gains speed, as if it were being bounced forward.
I noticed a similarity between this mode of navigation and the act of writing.
Words must be connected in order to complete a sentence. One word becomes the engine of another, and that word in turn becomes the driving force of the next. In the end, words are linked together to draw a trajectory.
I wrote several poems, and each poem contains a galaxy. A traveling spacecraft traces a path through several planets from its point of departure. In the same way, forming sentences by connecting words is like setting letters into motion. As planets move along their orbits, one can directly select a swing-by point, and the trajectory changes accordingly.
